The 7th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race (Dec 22, 2012)

The 7th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race took place at ROBOSPOT in Akihabara, Tokyo on Dec 22, 2012.

Eight multi-legged  robots joined the race.   Robot joined were Garutan (Kumama), Metallic Vaio 2012 (Morinaga), Milfy (Matsuo), BLACK TIGER L44 (IKETOMU), WaniWani (KENTA), Hakurou (HERO@Musen-ken), Echo (Yuya) and Dark Liger (Moriken).


A new additional attraction was added in the 7th KONDO LAND because 3 robots cleared 6 attractions in the 6th KONDO LAND.  The 7th attraction is stairs with gate on the last stair.  The gate opens for 15 seconds by pushing the botton in the goal floor as following the picture.  

Robot has to go up staris within 15 seconds.Metallic Bio 2012 tried to going up the stars, however it was very hard to go up the stairs.

Each robot had twice real time record race.  In the 7th KONDO LAND Obstacle Race, no robots clear the course within 3 minutes and no robots charenged the 7th attractions. 

The 1st place was Garutan, the 2nd place was WaniWani.  The MVP was also Garutan custom-built by Kumama-san and Kupapa-san. Garutan was attached a camera system and was controlled through camera in the motan-house.

The 6th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race (July 21, 2012)

The 6th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race took place at ROBOSPOT in Akihabara, Tokyo on July 21, 2012.

KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race is the competition for multi-legged robots and the 1st one was carried out at ROBOSPOT on
Dec 23, 2010.

Ten multi-legged  robots, such as 4-legged and 6-legged robot joined the race.   Robot joined were Metallic Vaio 2012 (Team Morinaga), WaniWani (KENTA), Garutan (Kumama), Tama-Kagi-Machine (Tma-Kagakugijutsu High School Robot Club), Dark Liger (Moriken), TicTac6.5 (Amino), Milfy (Matsuo), Soen type.L01 (HERO@Musen-ken), Miwakuno-Takyaku-kun (Takahashi) and BLACK TIGER L44 (IKETOMU).



The  6th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race Results

Each robot had twice real time record race.  In the 6th KONDO LAND Obstacle Race, Metallic Vaio 2012, Dark Liger and BLACK TIGER L44 could clear the course within 3 minutes. The 1st place was BLACK TIGER L44 which cleared 2 minutes and 15 seconds. The 2nd place was Metallic Vaio 2012 cleared 2 minutes and 17 seconds and the 3rd place was Dark Liger cleared 2 minutes and 37 seconds.  

The MVP was Metallic Vaio 2012 custom-built by Morinaga-san for unique 18 axes robot with 2 long arms or legs.

The result was described here . The best race video of each robot was as follows;

Metallic Vaio 2012; Two long arm or legged robot custom-built by Morinaga-san who is famous for biped robot, Metallic Fighter and called father of ROBO-ONE. The 2nd run, it took 2 minutes and 17 second for clearing the course. Metallic Vaio 2012 was the 2nd place and also got the MVP of the 6th KONDO LAND.

The 5th KONDO LAND Robot Obstacle Race took place at BELLESALLE AKIHABARA, Tokyo (Jan 8, 2012)

The 5th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race took place at BELLESALLE AKIHABARA , Tokyo on Jan 8, 2012.

Nine multi-legged  robots joined the race were BLACK TIGER L44, 4-legged robot by IKETOMU, Miwaku-no-Takyaku-chan, 4-legged robot by TAKAHASHI-san, Garutan, 4-legged robot by Kumama-san, Isoko-Rescue 4-legged robot by Iwakura-san, Gonbei Mk-Ⅱ, 6-legged robot by Sato Robot Laboratory, Spider ML-1, 4-legged robot by Ogawa-san, Tictac6, 6-legged robot by Amino-san, Wani-Wani, 4-legged robot by KENTA-san, Griffon, 6-legged robot by Matsuo-san.


Regulations of the Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race  were as follows.

1. Robot body regulation
1) KONDO servos have to be used.
2) There is no limitation of number of axes.
3) Weight of Robot is 3 kg or under.
4) Robot body sizes (arms are folding) are height 30 cm, width 30 cm and depth 30 cm or under.
5) Moving by wheels is prohibited.
6) Control board is free.
7) Robot has to be controlled by wireless or autonomous. Wired control is prohibited.

2. Course regulation
1) The most narrow width of the course is 400 mm and the lowest height of the course is 400 mm.
2) Material of the floor depends on each obstacle.

3. Competition regulation
1) Just one robot walks the course.
2) Time from the start point to goal is recorded.  The shortest time robot is winner.
3) Each robot can challenge the course three times.
4) Robot has to reach the goal within 3 minutes and the time over robot is retired.
5) Robot gone out of the course gets penalty time 10 seconds and one penalty point.  Penalty time adds to the record of 3 minutes.  Robot can restart from the entrance of un-cleared obstacle.  There are no limitations of restart times.  Every restart adds 10 seconds penalty time and one penalty point.
6) At the 2nd attraction, Magic Wall, robot push out the moving wall has a penalty time 10 seconds and one penalty point.  The magic wall push out is not returned to the obstacle course.
7) Robot can get points by pushing the button in each point getting place, where a point button set.  Getting points are depended on the button set place.

Various kinds of 4 obstacles set in the race course were as follows;

The 1st attraction: `Gattan` Seesaw
A big seesaw, which size are 500 mm in width and 700 mm in length with an inclination of 15 degrees.  A point getting push button for one point is set.  The steep slope is not easy for every robot.  It is important for robot not to slip feet.

The 2nd attraction: Magic Wall
A road, which size are 600 mm width and 1,000 mm in length with 2 pushing robots.  Magic Walll is hard for light weight robots.  Robot needs weight and power for push out the Wall.  Push button for stopping pushing robot was set on the each pushing robot.  Player robot can stop the pushing robot by pushing the button switch.
Degree of Difficulty:★★☆☆☆

The 3rd attraction: Reverse Street
Belt conveyor street of 500 mm width and 700 mm is moving reverse direction.  Robot has to walk with high speed.  The conveyor is too narrow to walk for big robots.

The 4th attraction: Swirling Straits
The most difficult Swirling Straits.  Space of 900 mm width and 1,000 mm length, filled with sponge balls is too hard to walk.   Robots need to have long legs.

The  5th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race Results

Each robot had three times real time record race.  In the 5th KONDO LAND Obstacle Race, BLACK TIGER L44 could clear all 4 attractions three times within 3 minutes. The 1st place was BLACK TIGER L44 which cleared by the best time at the 1st real time record race with no penalty points.  The 2nd place was Tictac6 cleared all 4 attractions once within 3 minutes.     The result was described here . The best race video of each robot was as follows;

BLACK TIGER L44, 4-legged robot custom-built by IKETOMU could clear three times all attractions within 3 minutes. This video is the 1st race with no penalty points which is the best time of the 5th KONDO LAND.



Tictac6, 6-legged robot using just 3 servos and link system cutom-built by Amino-san. Tictac6 could clear all 4 atractions once within 3 minutes.



Garutan, 4-legged robot custom-built by Kumama-san.



Miwaku-no-Takyaku-chan, 4-legged robot custom-built by Takahashi-san.   The robot tried to push the button on the Magic Wall using its long head and stopped  Magic Wall.



Wani-Wani, 4-legged robot custom-built by KENTA-san. The robot also tried to push the button on the Magic Wall and stopped Magic Wall.



Gonbei Mk-Ⅱ, 6-legged robot custom-built by suzuki-san.



Tictac6, custom-built by Amino-san was the most intersting 6-legged robot in the 5th KONDO LAND Robot Obstacle Race. Just 3 servo moters were used in the robot.

The 4th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race (July 17, 2011)

The 4th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race took place at ROBOSPOT in Akihabara, Tokyo on July 17, 2011. The games were shown on `USTREAM KONDO-ROBOT Channel` from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (JST) and videos are keeping in the Channel.

Nine multi-legged  robots, such as 4-legged and 6-legged robot joined the race.   Video of nine robots in order of start were as follows;

Benzene, 6-longlegged robot by Tama-Kagi-Robo-han who were students in high school.


Tictac5, 6-legged robot using just 3 servos and link system by Amino-san.


BLACK TIGER L44, 4-legged robot by IKETOMU.


Garutan, 4-legged robot by Kumama-san.  Garutan cleared Wobbly Bridge in the trial but could not clear in the real twice races.


Colon, KMR-M6 by Yoshida Familia.


Miwaku-no-Takyaku-kun, 4-legged robot by Takahashi-san.   The robot tried to push the button on the Magic Wall using its long head and stop Magic Wall.


Kabuton, 6-legged robot by Kamiya-san.    The robot also tried to push the button on the Magic Wall and stop Magic Wall.


Gold-Griffon, 6-legged robot by Moriken-san.


Rekusis, 6-legged robot by suzuki-san.  The robot took part in the race on the spur on the moment.

A big tunnel, which size are 1,200 mm width and 1,200 mm length with a pitfall (400 x 400 mm).  Two push buttons for one point are set in the House.  Ten point button is set out of the House.  One push gets one point and ten times push get 10 points, however 11 times push makes point zero.  Robots fallen into the trap, cannot return the race course.  Controller cannot see his robot in the Mootan House from controlling space.  Controller can move by the advice of his assistant.  Robot can be attached wireless camera and be controlled through image on PC.

Robot fallen down under the Mootan House, has to open the gate by pushing button switch set behind the floor in front of Swirling Straits.


The 4th attraction: Wobbly Bridge
A Board Bridge, which size are 400 mm width and 700 mm length, revolves on an axis.  If robots walk the edge of bridge, robots fall down from the bridge.  Robots have to walk slowly in the center of board.  Robot needs to have a low gravity.  Ten points button is also set beyond the bridge and one point button is set in the slope to the Reverse Street.

The 5th attraction: Swirling Straits
Robot fallen down from the pitfall of Mootan House, has to pass through the most difficult Swirling Straits.  Space of 900 mm width and 1,000 mm length, filled with sponge balls is too hard to walk.   Robots need to have long legs.

The 6th attraction: Reverse Street

Benzene, 6-longlegged robot by Tama-Kagi-Robo-han who were student in high school. The robot could not go up the slope of the seesaw.

The 3rd KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race (May 7, 2011)

The 3rd KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race took place at ROBOSPOT in Akihabara, Tokyo on May 7, 2011.
Nine multi-legged  robots, such as 4-legged and 6-legged robot joined the race. All multi-legged robots were custom-built robots.

Nine robots were Wani-Wani, 4-legged robot by KENTA, Kani-kan, 6-legged robot by KAMIYA, Golden Week, 4-legged robot by TAKAHASHI, Isoko-Rescue, 4-legged robot by KENMOCHI,Chrotan, 4 legged robot by Kupapa, Garutan, 4-legged robot by Kumama, BLACK TIGER L44 by IKETOMU, Metalic-Bio, 6-legged robot by MORINAGA and TUS-G1, 6-legged robot by Tar.

The time record races were carried out twice. In the 3rd KONDO Land Obstacle Race, no robots could clear all 6 attractions even Wobbly Bridge within 3 minutes.

The 1st place was Garutan which cleared Mootan House with penalty point zero. The 2nd place was Isoko-Rescue, also cleared Mootan House with one penalty point. The 3rd place was Golden Week, also cleared Mootan House with one penalty point. The MVP was BLACK TIGER L44 which controlled using camera loaded for Mootan House and smooth going up Gattan Seesaw. The special prize, Inoue Prize was Wani-Wani. The result was described here and all race videos by KONDO.  The best race video of each robot was as follows;

Trial of KMR-6M, a new KONDO 6-Legged Robot
Trial of KMR-6M, a new KONDO 6-legged robot was carried out by a visitor of the 3rd KONDO Land. KMR-6M could clear Mootan House by the beginner.



Multi-Legged Robots Get UP from Upside-Down
Most of Multi-Legged robots cannot get up from upside-down. Metalic-Bio, Isoko-Rescue and BLACK TIGER L44 could get up from Upside-down. Presentation was carried out after competition.

The 2nd KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race (Jan 23, 2011)

The 2nd KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race took place at ROBOSPOT in Akihabara, Tokyo on Jan. 23, 2011. The competition was shown on `Ustream KONDO Channel` at 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (JST) and videos have been keeping in the channel.  The 1st Race carried out on Dec. 23, 2010.

Eleven multi-legged  robots, such as 4-legged, 5-legged and 6-legged robot joined the race. All multi-legged robots were custum-built robots.


New robots such as Garutan by Kumama-san, Mushi-gata Robot by Takahashi-san, Gonbei by Sato-san and Jaaga by Igga-san joined the 2nd competition.  Robots joined the 1st race, such as Isoko Rescue, YASHIGANI, Metalic-Bio, Kanikan, Yabusame, BLACK TIGER L45 and Tic-Tac, also have evolved from the 1st race robots in the structure and motion. Each Profile of multi-legged robot joined was as follows;

Garutan, 4-Legged Robot by Kumama and Kupapa-san, which can move with 6 servos.


Gonbei, 5-Legged Robot by Sato-san.


Isoko Rescue, 4-Legged Robot by Kenmotsu-san, which was changed from 6-legged robot and made legs long.


Jaaga, 4-Legged Robot by Igaa-san, which has additional 2 servos for getting up motion. He named the 4-legged robot after jaguar.


Kanikan, 6-Legged Robot by Kamiya-san, which evolved in the leg structure and motions.


Metalic-Bio, 6-Legged Robot by Morinaga-san.


Mushi-gata Robot, 4-Legged Robot by Takahasi-san.


Tic-Tac2, 6-Legged Robot by Amino-san, which moves just 6 servos.


Yabusame, 4-Legged Robot by mota-san.


YASHIGANI, 6-Legged Robot by Azusa-san, which attaches camera system using KCB-3WL, a wireless LAN board for hobby robot from KONDO.

2. Course regulation
1) Obstacles are set in the KONDO CUP KHR Class Soccer Field.
2) The most narrow width of the course is 400 mm and the lowest height of the course is 400 mm.
3) Material of the floor depends on each obstacle.

3. Competition regulation
1) Just one robot walks the course.
2) Time from the start point to goal is recorded. The shotest time robot is winner.
3) Each robot can challenge the course twice.
4) Robot has to reach the goal within 3 mins and the time over robot is retired.
5) Robot gone out of the course gets penalty time 10 seconds and one penalty point. Penalty time adds to the record of 3 minutes. Robot can restart the entrance of uncleared obstraction. There are no limitation of restart times. Every restart adds 10 sec penalty time and one penalty point.
6) At the 2nd attraction, Magic Wall, robot push out the moving wall has a penalty time 10 seconds and one penalty point. The magic wall push out is not returned to the obstraction place.
7) Robot can get points by pushing the button in each point getting place, where a point button set. Getting points are depended on the button set place.

The 1st attraction : `Gattan` Seesaw
A big seesaw, which size are 500 mm in width and 700 mm in length with an inclination of 15 degrees. A point getting push button for one point is set. The steep slope is not easy for every robot.  It is important for robot not to slip feet.

The 2nd attraction: Magic Wall
A road, which size are 600 mm width and 1,000 mm in length with 2 pushing robots.  Magic Walll is hard for light weight robots.  Robot needs weight and power for push out the Wall.

The 3rd Attraction: Mootan House
A big tunnel, which size are 1,200 mm width and 1,200 mm length with a pitfall (400 x 400 mm). Two push buttons for one point are set in the House. Ten point button is set out of the House. One push gets one point and ten times push get 10 points, however 11 times push makes point zero. Robots fallen into the trap, cannot return the race course. Controler can not see his robot in the Mootan House from controling space.  Controler can move by the advice of his assistant.  Robot can be attached wireless camera and be controled through image on PC.

The 4th attraction: Wobbly Bridge
A Board Bridge, which size are 400 mm width and 700 mm length, revolves on an axis.  If robots walk the edge of bridge, robots fall down from the bridge.  Robots have to walk slowly in the center of board.  Robot needs to have a low gravity. Ten points button is also set beyond the bridge and one point button is set in the slope to the Reverse Street.

The 5th attraction: Swirling Straits
Robot fallen down from the pitfall of Mootan House, has to pass through the most difficult Swirling Straits.  Space of 900 mm width and 1,000 mm length, filled with sponge balls is too hard to walk. Robots need to have long legs.

The 6th attraction: Reverse Street
Belt conveyor street of 500 mm width and 700 mm is moving reverse direction. Robot has to walk with high speed.  The converyor is too narrow to walk for big robots.

The 2nd KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race Results
The time record race carried out twice.  All robots had the best record in the 2nd race.  The 1st place was Tic-Tac2 which cleared the obstracle course for the first time with 2 minutes and 2 seconds.  The 2nd place was Metalic-Bio and the 3rd palce was Isoko Rescue.  The MVP was Metalic-Bio.  The special prize was Garutan because of getting 16 points in the point getting race.   The result was described here.  The best race video of each robot was uploaded to YouTube IKETOMU Channel.

The 3rd Place, Isoko Rescue, 4-Legged Robot by Kenmotsu-san, which was changed from 6-legged robot and made legs long.


The 2nd Place and the MVP, Metalic-Bio, 6-Legged Robot by Morinaga-san.


The 1st place, Tic-Tac2, 6-Legged Robot by Amino-san, which moves just 6 servos. Tic-Tac2 cleared the obstacle course for the first time within 3 minutes (2 minutes and 2 seconds).


Addtionnal race, point getting race within 5 minutes was also carrid out.    Because almost robots did not try to get point in the twice time record race.   Jaaga, Garutan, Tic-Tac2, Metalic-Bio and YASHIGANI could get points. Garutan got 16 points and got special prize.


BLACK TIGER L45 also could get 10 points in the point getting race as follows;


In the 2nd KONDO Land Obstacle Race, just Mushi-gata Robot could clear the Wobbly Bridge during the point getting race within 5 mins.

The 1st KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race (Dec 23, 2010)

The 1st KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race took place at ROBOSPOT in Akihabara, Tokyo on Dec 23, 2010.  Ten multi-legged  robots, such as 4-legged, 5-legged and 6-legged robot joined the race.  The competition was shown on `Ustream KONDO Channel` at 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (JST) and videos have been keeping in the channel.

Robots joined were Isoko Rescue, YASHIGANI, Stallone, Metalic Bio, Petit-Kanikan, Yabusame, BLACK TIGER L45, Tic-Tac, WaniWani and RT Isoko.  All multi-legged robots were custum-built robots.

Regulations of the Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race which was reviced on 22 Dec  were as follows.

1. Robot body regulation
1) KONDO servos have to be used.
2) There is no limitation of number of axes.
3) Weight of Robot is 3 k g or under.
4) Robot body size (arms are folding) are height 30 cm, width 30cm and depth 30 cm or under.

There was no robot cleared the obstracle course.  The 1st place was Isoko Rescue which cleared the most difficult Wooby Bridge, the 2nd place was Stallone which also cleared Wooby Bridge and was controled through attached camera all course. The 3rd palce was Tic-Tac which cleared difficult Swirling Straits.  The MVP was Yabusame because of its cool 4-Legged structure. The result was described here.  Time trial was carried out twice. The best race video of each robot was uploaded.


1) Isoko Rescue, 6-Legged Robot by Obana-san, cleared Gattan Seesaw, Magic Wall, Mootan House and Woobby Bridge, got the 1st place of the 1st KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Obstacle Race. Time trial 2nd.



2) YASHIGANI, 6-Legged Robot by Azusa-san, cleared Gattan Seesaw, Magic Wall and Mootan House. Time trial 2nd.  Heavy robot 1.8 kg with 18 axses.



3) Stallone, 6-Legged Robot with KCB-3WL, New Wireless LAN Board for Hobby Robot from KONDO, by Noborizaka-san, cleared Gattan Seesaw, Magic Wall, Mootan House and Woobby Bridge, got the 2nd place of the 1st KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Obstacle Race. Noborizaka-san controled his robot through camera all of the course. Time trial 2nd.



4) Metalic Bio, 6-Legged Robot by Morinaga-san, cleared Gattan Seesaw, Magic Wall and Mootan House. Time trial 1st.



5) Petit-Kanikan, 6-Legged Robot by Kamiya-san, cleared Gattan Seesaw. Time trial 2nd.



6) Yabusame, 4-Legged Robot by mota, cleared Gattan Seesaw and Magic Wall. Time trial 2nd.  The MVP robot of the competition because of its cool 4-legged structure.



7) BLACK TIGER L45, Anoumalous 5-Legged Robot by IKETOMU, cleared Gattan Seesaw and Magic Wall. Time trial 1st. The most heavy robot, 1.9 kg with 16 axses.



8) Tic-Tac, 6-Legged Robot by Amino-san, cleared Gattan Seesaw, Magic Wall and Swirling Straits, got 3rd place of the 1st KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race. The robot moves with just 6 servoes. Time trial 1st.



9) WaniWani, 4-Legged Robot by KENTA, cleared Gattan Seesaw, Magic Wall and Mootan House. Time trial 1st.  The most pretty robot of joined robots, which has a tail.  `Wani` in Japanese means crocodile or alligator. 



10) RT Isoko, 6-Legged Robot by Suzuki-san, cleared Gattan Seesaw. Time trial 2nd.
