ROBOT ATHLETE CUP 2013 at TAMAROKUTO SCIENCE CENTER in Tokyo (June 30, 2013)


ROBOT ATHLETE CUP 2013 at TAMAROKUTO SCIENCE CENTER took place in Nishi-Tokyo City, Tokyo on June 30, 2013, which was sponsored by TAMAROKUTO SCIENCE CENTER and ROBOT ATHLETE CUP Executive Committee.

The purposes of ATHLETE CUP are development of robot technology and activation of the robot-market by providing robot builders and students with a place for exchanging information.

MANOI by KYOSHO, KHR series by KONDO KAGAKU CO., LTD. and Himejisoftworks Zero series which were on the market could join the competition. Revised these robots also could join.

Seven robots joined 5 athletic competitions which were Radio Controlled 5 m Foot Race, Radio Controlled 10 m Obstacle Race, Dancing, Autonomous Beach Flag, Autonomous 20 m Foot Race and High Jump. Each competition winner got a prize, twenty thousand yen.

Competitions were carried out on the athletic field which was 6 m length and 1.8 m width punch-carpet (needle-carpet).  Results are shown in Robot Yuenchi Blog.

Radio Controlled 5 m Foot Race

Four robots joined the competition. Each robot could run the 5 m course 3 times. The robot taken the best record was a winner. Robot joined were 1) BLACK TIGER β, 2) ATACO, 3) Purple Star, 4) Metalic MANOI. The winner was ATACO, MANOI revised robot by Hiroki which best record time was 13.60 seconds.  Video is each robot's best record of 3 times run.

Complete Fighting Robot Set 'Melissa Exceed Type G' was put on the market (June 5, 2013)

CRAFT HOUSE put 'Melissa Exceed Type G', a new completed robot set, on the market on June 5, 2013. The completed robot is a hyper-fighting robot consisted with parallel-linked leg set 'Mercury',  high power servo, KRS-4034HV as actuator and RCB-4HV as the control board.  About 30 motions for robot fight are installed to RCB-4HV.  The price is 580,000 yen (excluding tax).  It takes 3 weeks for shipping.

Features of 'Melissa Exceed Type G' are as follows:
1) 'Mercury' is a leg set using parallel-linked mechanism for KRS-4000 Series servo produced by KONDO CO. LTD. It makes a heavy robot body move with stability.
2) The actuator is high power servo, KRS-4034HV produced by KONDO CO. LTD.
3) Control board is RCB-4HV produced by KONDO CO. LTD., installed about 30 motions for robot fight.

The completed robot set is consisted with robot body, controller (VS-C3) and manual.  Battery and battery charger are excluding.

The 16th Robot Survival Game at Mokei-juku, Tokyo (Mar 10, 2013)

The 16th Robot Survival Game took place at Mokei-juku in Tokyo on Mar. 10, 2013.  Mokei-juku, for Figure Making Lesson Room was used for the 16th Robot Survival Game Field as the 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th one.

Six robots, Arnold Stallone (Noborizaka),  Denryu (Gons), CR-Cannon (Yoshida), Yabusame (Mota), Combat Creatures (Mota) and XeroTANK (Ninagawa), joined the 16th Survival Game.   All robots were controlled by camera system in all battles except for Battle Royal (Rumble Battle).

Robot Survival Games such as Combat Shooting, Duel Fight (10 games) and Battle Royal (Rumble Battle) were carried out in the 16th. Tobby-san and Noborizaka-san uploaded videos of all games in his YouTube channel.  Noborizasa-san also uploaded videos through the camera attached his robot, Arnold Stallone.  Details were also described in Sanzai-san's Blog (1) (2) (3) (in Japanese).  

Combat Shooting :
Combat shooting is a practice game for training of shoot skill.  Robot moves to the shooting place from the starting point and shoots the target. Robot has to go to the shooting place for easy shooting.  The target was a small can covered with aluminum foil in the 16th.  Shooting of the center place of the target got bonus point.

Dual Fight : 
Just 2 robots fight in the field.

 Extermination Battle (Destroy the enemy completely): Each team fights to destroy the enemy completely within 5 minutes; Winner team is having larger number of survival robot after 5 minutes.

Battle Royal  (Rumble Battle) :
All robots fight each other and just one robot survival in 5 minutes was winner. Rumble fight was carried out without using camera system.

Robot Survival Game was planned by Tanaka-san and Bishii-san. Mobile, not only multi-legged robot or biped robot but also mobile with wheel or caterpillar, which equipped with toy gun, hit sensor and camera system, can join to play survival game. The 1st Robot Survival Game took place at Akihabara, Tokyo on July 19, 2010 and the game takes place every 2 months. Tanaka-san also planned several kind of survival game, such as Extermination Battle, Flag Battle and Fortress Battle.

Trials of the Robot Survival Game were held twice on April 10th and June 13th (1) (2), 2010. The 1st Robot Survival Game took place on July 19th, the 2nd one on Sep 11th, the 3rd one on Nov 20-21st, the 4th one on Dec 11 in 2010, the 5th one on Feb 20, the 6th one on April 17, the 7th one on June 26, the 8th one on Sep 3-4, the 9th one on Nov 26 in 2011, the 10th on Feb 26, the 11th on Apr 29, the 12th on June 24, the 13th on Aug 26, the 14th on Oct 28th in 2012, the 15th on Dec 16th in 2012 and the details were described in this blog.

The 7th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race (Dec 22, 2012)

The 7th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race took place at ROBOSPOT in Akihabara, Tokyo on Dec 22, 2012.

Eight multi-legged  robots joined the race.   Robot joined were Garutan (Kumama), Metallic Vaio 2012 (Morinaga), Milfy (Matsuo), BLACK TIGER L44 (IKETOMU), WaniWani (KENTA), Hakurou (HERO@Musen-ken), Echo (Yuya) and Dark Liger (Moriken).


A new additional attraction was added in the 7th KONDO LAND because 3 robots cleared 6 attractions in the 6th KONDO LAND.  The 7th attraction is stairs with gate on the last stair.  The gate opens for 15 seconds by pushing the botton in the goal floor as following the picture.  

Robot has to go up staris within 15 seconds.Metallic Bio 2012 tried to going up the stars, however it was very hard to go up the stairs.

Each robot had twice real time record race.  In the 7th KONDO LAND Obstacle Race, no robots clear the course within 3 minutes and no robots charenged the 7th attractions. 

The 1st place was Garutan, the 2nd place was WaniWani.  The MVP was also Garutan custom-built by Kumama-san and Kupapa-san. Garutan was attached a camera system and was controlled through camera in the motan-house.

DeAGOSTINI Has Issued `Weekly Robi` with Biped Robot Parts of Robi (Feb 19, 2013)


DeAGOSTINI has issued weekly magazine, `Weekly Robi` with biped robot parts of Robi on Feb 19th, 2013.  The issue was announced in TV commercial on the day.  Robi parts are attached every weekly magazine.   Robot will complete with 70 volumes of magazine. The first issue price is 790 yen including tax. Price of the 2nd issue will be 1990 yen.  The issue attached control board will be 4,990 yen.

Gingmag also introduced the issue of `Weekly Robi` in English.

Tomotaka Takahashi who is well known as robot creator such as CHROINO, FT, ROPID, EVOLTA etc., designed Robi. 

Control board of Vstone Co., Ltd is used for the robot.   Servo motors of Futaba Corporation are used with 20 axes.  Voice-recognizing board and Human-detect-sensor are also attached.  The weight is 1 kg including battery and the height is 340 mm.
